What to Expect in Worship

Our Worship Space

Open Door is a unique faith community in that we choose to worship in rented spaces and do not own a building. We currently are renting space at the lovely Neighborhood Academy. The Neighborhood Academy is a privately funded faith based school with a chapel in the middle of their academic building.

Parking

At the Neighborhood Academy we are blessed to have a parking lot! This is something new for us and we are very grateful. The parking lot that is most convenient is off of Aiken Street, as we use the main entrance that is facing Aiken (say “hi” to the friendly bulldog sculpture by the entrance). Please drive carefully as we have many children in our community.

Children in Worship

It is our desire to create a place where people of all ages are invited to share in worship. Children are a blessing to our community and we desire them to be full participants in the worship experience. We welcome the sights and sounds of children in worship, and encourage families to move around the space as they need to feel comfortable. We also have a dedicated time of teaching children during the sermon. Children prek-5th grade are dismissed after the Children's blessing. They then return prior to communion.

What to Wear

You are welcome to wear whatever makes you comfortable in the act of worshipping God. In general, we are a very casual community and you will see a lot of jeans and shorts from our smallest worshippers on up.

Music

We are blessed with many talented musicians, and try to rotate who leads worship every week. The music style is contemporary and our musicians often play their original songs.
